The Federal Government has directed the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate X, Meta, Alphabet, and several generative AI companies over allegations that their business practices are hurting Nigeria’s media industry. The probe follows a joint petition by the Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO), which represents newspaper publishers, broadcasters, journalists, and online publishers. The media groups argue that global tech platforms are using their market power to undermine local news organisations and content creators.
