Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct P-Square group, has defended his children speaking French after social media users questioned whether they could also speak Igbo, arguing that parents should be free to decide how they raise their children.
The exchange began on Monday after the singer shared a post from Paris, on X where he expressed admiration for how effortlessly his children communicate in French.
“Still in Paris!
Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it’s time to own a crib here in Paris.
Just a thought,” he wrote.
What appeared to be a casual reflection about life abroad soon sparked a conversation about language, culture and identity after an X user, @sambuddybest, asked, “Hope they can speak Igbo, too?”
Responding to the comment, Mr P questioned the practical value of Nigerian languages.
