A 23-year-old Nigerian student in the United States, Godson Oghenebrume, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and discharging it during a confrontation involving his former girlfriend and their infant child.
According to a statement from U.S. prosecutors, Chief Judge Shelly Dick handed down the sentence after Oghenebrume admitted to possessing a Glock 43X 9mm pistol while on an F-1 student visa.
He now faces deportation upon completion of his prison term.The incident occurred on February 7, 2025, when Oghenebrume’s ex-girlfriend arrived at his apartment with their baby and discovered him with another woman.
An argument ensued, during which Oghenebrume fired multiple shots, even as the child was present. Bullet strikes were later found on the apartment walls.
Authorities reported that Oghenebrume smashed his ex-girlfriend’s phone, briefly took custody of the child, and attempted to evade arrest when deputies arrived.
