Three Nigerian students have etched their names on the global academic stage after winning gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad Grand Finale in Rome, Italy. This feat has drawn widespread praise while sparking conversations about education, national pride and the need to celebrate excellence above ethnic divisions.
The students — Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso and Onyedikachi Egejurum — emerged among the world’s brightest in Mathematics and Science at the competition, which brought together outstanding young minds from more than 150 countries.
Their journey to the global stage was made possible through the sponsorship of Alex Onyia, an education advocate and CEO of Educare, who funded their participation after they distinguished themselves at the Southeast Mathematics Olympiad.
Announcing the achievement on X, Onyia initially celebrated the gold medals won by Chimdiebube Onwubiko and Don Anele Munachimso before later revealing that Don Anele had also clinched another gold medal
