Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully repelled an attempted attack by suspected terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mayanchi, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The swift response prevented any breach of the facility and kept the vital Sokoto–Gusau highway secure.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who monitors counter-insurgency operations in the Lake Chad region, the assailants believed to be riding motorcycles launched the assault around 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Their apparent goal was to infiltrate and overrun the military position.
Soldiers at the base promptly engaged the attackers in combat. Reinforcements from the nearby Forward Operating Base in Fangaltama were quickly deployed, strengthening the defense. The coordinated effort forced the terrorists to withdraw without gaining access to the camp.
The successful defense ensured uninterrupted operations along the Sokoto–Gusau Main Supply Route, safeguarding both military logistics and civilian traffic in the area. Sources indicated that the operation
