In a landmark move to modernize justice delivery, Nigeria’s judiciary has officially transitioned from manual case filing to a fully electronic system.
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Tomori Kekere-Ekun, announced the development at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, unveiling the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS).
She emphasized that the adoption of technology was essential to ensure efficiency, transparency, and timely resolution of disputes.
“The administration of justice in the twenty-first century demands more than the faithful application of legal principles. It requires judicial institutions that are efficient, accessible, transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of court users,” Justice Kekere-Ekun stated.
The CJN further introduced new practice directions mandating the electronic upload of processes, records of appeal, and other court documents.
Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Barrister Kabiru Akanbi, confirmed that a digital registry will now operate at the apex court, urging litigants and stakeholders to align with the new vision.
