Nigeria’s StudyCrew launches AI-powered ed-tech platform

Nigerian startup StudyCrew has launched an AI-powered ed-tech platform designed to transform how students study, collaborate, and stay productive. 

Founded last year by cybersecurity student Josiah Dhev, StudyCrew is an AI-powered, gamified learning platform that aims to make studying more engaging and consistent for students. It combines AI tutors, study streaks, progress tracking, and social learning features to help students learn better and stay motivated, especially in distraction-heavy environments.

“It started as a personal idea to solve motivation and consistency issues in student learning and has since grown into a structured product currently in development with a small founding team focused on product, growth, and community,” said Dhev.

Most learning platforms focus heavily on content delivery, but not on consistency, engagement, or habit-building, he said. 

“Students often struggle with attention and motivation, especially in African education systems where digital learning tools are still limited,” said Dhev.

While competitors include platforms like Duolingo, Khan Academy, and various ed-tech tools, StudyCrew focuses more on full learning habit-building through gamification and AI personalisation across subjects, rather than single-skill learning.

The self-funded startup already has over 200 users, not only from Africa, but also from countries like India and the United Kingdom (UK), and is also currently in the process of onboarding universities and high schools. 

“We are currently in early development and pre-scale phase, focusing on product building, feedback collection, and preparing for wider user onboarding and campus rollout,” Dhev said.
