Team Nigeria’s Gold Award winner, Chinedu Great Okediachi, has returned to Delta State after representing Nigeria at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China.

The development was announced by the Nigeria Spelling Bee in a post shared on its official social media page, showing the student arriving at the Asaba International Airport, where he was received by family members, friends, supporters and well-wishers.

According to the organisers, Okediachi was among members of Team Nigeria that secured the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category during the international competition.

The Spelling Bee World Cup is an international academic competition that brings together students from different countries to compete in spelling, vocabulary and language proficiency after qualifying through national spelling contests.

Sharing video from the reception, the Nigeria Spelling Bee described the homecoming as a recognition of the student’s efforts and the team’s performance in China.

“Chinedu was a member of the historic Team Nigeria that won the Gold Award in the Middle School Group Category, bringing honour and pride to Nigeria on the global stage,” the organisers stated.

The organisation congratulated the student on his achievement and welcomed him back to Nigeria.

“Congratulations once again, Chinedu! Your success continues to inspire young Nigerians to pursue excellence through education. Welcome home, Champion!” the statement added.
