Staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency have formally asked their national union leadership to reactivate a previously suspended strike over the non-payment of outstanding minimum wage arrears and other allowances, saying years of unfulfilled promises have pushed workers to their limit.
In a letter jointly signed by representatives of the agency’s in-house unions obtained by our correspondent, the workers accused management of failing to honour agreements reached after interventions by the minister and subsequent meetings aimed at resolving the lingering welfare issues.
According to the union leaders, staff are still owed nine months of the 2019 minimum wage arrears, four months of the 2024 minimum wage arrears, as well as several outstanding allowances.
