The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has given the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, a seven-day ultimatum to step aside following the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist, Mary Habila.

The group warned it would mobilize nationwide protests if its demands are not met.In a statement signed by its National President, Isah Abubakar, the council urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend Umahi immediately to allow for what it described as an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death.

The NYCN also called on the Nigeria Police Force to invite Umahi for questioning, stressing that the incident requires a transparent criminal probe.

Reports circulating in the public domain allege that Habila died at Umahi’s private residence in Uburu, Ebonyi State, fueling public concern.

The group demanded an independent autopsy, insisting it must be conducted transparently and free from influence to establish the true cause of death.

It warned that any investigation perceived to be compromised
