The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a suspect, Sunday Ukeh, for allegedly transporting 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in a truck.
Ukeh, from Odume in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was intercepted on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka during an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad.
According to a statement issued Monday by the Command’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations, Edwin Okadigbo, the suspect initially refused to stop when flagged down, attempting to drive through NSCDC personnel and nearly running them over. A chase ensued, and he was eventually apprehended at a military checkpoint in Amansea.
Okadigbo said Ukeh also attempted to assault one of the officers before being subdued. Preliminary investigations revealed discrepancies in the waybill presented by the suspect. The truck and its contents have since been impounded for further investigation.
