Chippa United head coach Brandon Truter has described Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as “one of Africa’s best” after the Nigerian shot-stopper inspired the Chilli Boys to victory at the second Eastern Cape Pre-Season Tournament in South Africa, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Chippa United claimed the title on Sunday after defeating Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Mthatha Stadium.
Nwabali emerged as the hero in the shootout, producing a crucial save before his teammates converted all four of their spot-kicks to secure the trophy.
Reflecting on the triumph, Truter said he was confident his side would prevail once the match went to penalties because of the quality of his Nigerian goalkeeper.
“With Stanley Nwabali in goal, one of Africa’s best, I knew he’d make a save to help us win,” Truter told The Herald.
