Five Nigerian quarter-milers will be in action in the men’s and women’s 400m semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday, with Samuel Ogazi and Ella Onojuvwevwo spearheading the country’s medal push, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian contingent comprises two men and three women. While Ogazi and Onojuvwevwo earned automatic places in the semi-finals based on their world rankings, their teammates—Patience Okon-George, Esther Joseph and Eddidiong Udo—booked their spots through the preliminary heats on Tuesday.
In the men’s event, Udo produced an impressive performance on his international 400m debut for Nigeria, winning Heat 1 in 45.73 seconds to qualify automatically for the semi-finals.
He has been drawn in lane eight of the third semi-final, while Ogazi will compete from lane five in the opening semi-final.

In the women’s event, veteran Okon-George also progressed automatically after finishing fourth in her heat in 53.27 seconds.
