The Ogun State Government has said it will reopen schools recently shut in parts of Ijebu-Ode after completing safety reviews and consultations over recurring gas emissions in the area.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbadu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, during a state government-organised town hall meeting with stakeholders on the gas emissions at the Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, noting that the decision followed engagements with principals of affected schools and zonal education officers to ensure safe resumption of academic activities.
Several students in affected schools within Ijebu-Ode and its environs were reportedly hospitalised after experiencing symptoms linked to the recurring gas emission incidents that triggered panic in the area.
The affected students were said to have complained of discomfort, dizziness and breathing difficulties during or shortly after exposure to the emissions, prompting school authorities to seek urgent medical attention for them as
