The Ogun State Government has announced plans to transform its Safety Office into a fully empowered Safety Commission to strengthen industrial safety, improve regulatory compliance and reduce workplace accidents across the state.
The government also warned manufacturers against allowing the state’s rapid industrial growth to compromise workplace safety.
The Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, disclosed this on Tuesday while declaring open a training workshop for safety personnel organised by the Ministry of Environment in Abeokuta.
Speaking on the theme, “Industrial Resilience and Safety Governance: Building a Culture of Compliance, Prevention and Sustainable Growth,” Oresanya, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Kafayat Lawal, said the proposed commission would strengthen policy implementation, improve technical oversight, enhance enforcement mechanisms and promote international best practices in occupational safety and environmental protection.
