Oil asset protection projected to boost licensing round success

Nigeria’s ambitious 2025 oil licensing round is expected to benefit from sustained oil asset protection, as stakeholders emphasise pipeline security and Niger Delta stability to attract investment, DARE OLAWIN writes

The country’s 2025 upstream oil licensing round has set ambitious production and reserve targets, with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission seeking to add 500 million barrels to the country’s reserves and increase crude oil production by 300,000 barrels per day within three years.

Industry stakeholders say achieving those objectives will depend not only on attracting investment but also on protecting oil assets, tackling crude oil theft, and maintaining stability in the Niger Delta.

The 2025 licensing round underscores Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen upstream investment and expand exploration activities.
