The Osogbo Festival is set to reach its historic Grand Finale today, Friday, August 7, 2026, attracting over 500,000 local and international devotees. The festival, themed ‘Preserving Heritage, Inspiring the Future ’, has transformed the UNESCO-protected Osun Sacred Grove into an epicentre of Yoruba spirituality, art, and high-energy culture.
Today’s grand finale event will bring life to the legendary mile-long procession stretching from the Ataoja’s (the town’s king) palace to the main Osun Shrine deep within the forest.
The Arugba, 10-year-old Princess Alimot Moredeke Ajoke Osunbunmi, will carry the massive, heavy calabash which contains the community’s collective sacrificial offerings, meant to renew the ancient pact of peace, protection, and fertility signed centuries ago between the river goddess, Yeye Osun, and the city’s mythical founders.
