‘Outright falsehood’ — NFF denies backing calls for FIFA president to resign

 The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed rumours that it has joined calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down from his role at the helm of world football’s governing body.

 

The NFF addressed its position in a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, describing the rumours as “outright falsehood”.

 

Infantino has come under pressure from several confederations following his controversial FIFA forward enterprise proposal, which sought to invite external investment in FIFA competitions for increased financial injection.

 

The proposal was later withdrawn, but multiple European associations, including those of Wales, England, and most recently Norway, have called for the Italian to vacate his position.

 

Argentina and Mexico have publicly supported Infantino, but social media reports had claimed the NFF aligned itself with European nations in calling for his removal.
