The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria has sealed 383 pharmaceutical premises across Ogun State for operating in violation of regulatory standards, warning that the activities of illegal drug outlets pose serious risks to public health and national security.
The Head of the Council’s Enforcement Department, Suleiman Chiroma, disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while presenting the outcome of a four-day enforcement exercise conducted across the state.
Chiroma said the operation, carried out on the directive of the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Ibrahim Ahmed, covered 11 local government areas and led to the inspection of 738 pharmaceutical premises.
He said, “A total of 738 premises were inspected during the exercise, comprising 277 pharmacies, 288 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendor stores and 173 unregistered or illegal outlets.
