The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a phone theft syndicate and recovered nine brand-new Android phones allegedly stolen from shops in Asaba and its environs.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Monday from a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, that the suspects were arrested on July 25 during an intelligence-led operation at their hideout along St Brigid’s Road, Asaba.
The suspects were identified as Johna Omarocha, Kelvin Onogho, Nkechi Nnaji and Ufuoma Joshua.
Edafe said a search of the hideout led to the recovery of nine brand-new Android phones still in their cartons.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects specialised in stealing new phones from retail shops by posing as customers.

The statement added that the syndicate allegedly used newspapers to conceal phones displayed in shops before leaving with them unnoticed.
