The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly responsible for the murder of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, and recovered four assault rifles, including the officers’ stolen AK-47s.
The officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, when the assailants launched what police described as a commando-style assault, opened fire on the patrol team and fled with their service rifles.
Police said one of the officers suffered severe gunshot injuries that led to the amputation of a leg before he later died in hospital, while the second officer was also killed in the attack.
The breakthrough was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt by the Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe.
