The Niger State Police Command has dismantled a major forgery ring, arresting a 42‑year‑old suspect accused of producing fake National Identity Numbers (NIN) and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for over 1,000 people.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, revealed the breakthrough while briefing journalists in Minna on the command’s July operations.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Aliyu Buba of Angwan Sarki in Munya Local Government Area, was apprehended on July 28 following intelligence reports.A raid on his residence uncovered 105 counterfeit NIN cards and 189 forged PVCs.
During interrogation, Buba confessed to charging ₦2,000 per fake NIN and ₦1,000 per PVC, earning more than ₦3 million from the illegal trade.
Elleman confirmed the suspect remains in custody and will face prosecution once investigations conclude.
He warned residents against patronising fraudsters, stressing that possession of forged government documents carries severe legal consequences.
