The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Benue State, and the Benue State Police Command have given differing accounts over the disappearance of a seminarian, Kelvin Ochai, from the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Otukpo, Most Rev. Michael Apochi.
While the diocese said the seminarian was abducted on Wednesday night from the Bishop’s residence in Asa III, Otukpo, and appealed for prayers for his safe release, the police said they were treating the matter as a missing person case.
In a statement on Friday, the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev Joseph Itodo, said no contact had been made with the alleged abductors, while efforts were ongoing to secure Ochai’s freedom.
