Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday disbursed over N3.1 billion in compensation to more than 300 property owners whose lands were acquired by the government for strategic infrastructure projects.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Sanwo-Olu described the payment as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights in line with the Land Use Act.

He emphasised that land acquisition for public purposes carries both legal and moral obligations to compensate affected persons promptly and adequately.

“Today’s exercise is not charity; it is justice. It is not a favour; it is the rightful entitlement of every verified project-affected person whose property was acquired for public purpose,” the governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu noted that all claims underwent thorough due process, including enumeration, professional valuation, and title verification, to ensure only legitimate owners received compensation. He stressed that development must always have a human face, acknowledging the families, livelihoods, and stories
