Senate panel clears Lamido Yuguda as AMCON board chair

The Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on Tuesday cleared the nomination of Mr Lamido Yuguda as Chairman of the Board of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, allowing him to “take a bow and go” in line with Senate tradition for nominees who have previously undergone legislative screening.

The committee also directed AMCON’s management to brief lawmakers on the corporation’s operations, financial position and preparedness for the expiration of its statutory mandate in 2030.

The screening, chaired by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East), was attended by the Managing Director of AMCON, Mr Gbenga Alade, senior officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria and members of the Senate committee.

Presenting the nominee, the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Basheer Lado, said Yuguda’s nomination was made in compliance with Section 10(1)(a) of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2019,
