A public dispute erupted between leading football transfer journalists Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg on social media over the proposed transfer of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande to Real Madrid, with both reporters accusing each other of inaccurate reporting and questionable journalistic practices.
The row began after Romano posted one of his trademark “Here We Go” announcements, claiming the transfer had been completed on Sunday.
“BREAKING: YAN DIOMANDE TO REAL MADRID, HERE WE GO! Agreement closed tonight with RB Leipzig for a fee over €100m for the Ivorian winger. Diomande will fly to Madrid this week for medical tests and contract signing until June 2031. DONE,” Romano wrote on X.
However, shortly afterwards, Sky Germany journalist Plettenberg disputed the claim, insisting negotiations between the clubs were still ongoing.
