Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, has appealed to the Fulani community to cooperate with security agencies in tackling insecurity, stressing that the violent actions of armed criminals are tarnishing the community’s reputation.

Speaking in Minna on July 18, the governor warned that kidnappings and killings attributed to Fulani bandits were fueling resentment. He urged community members to advise relatives hiding in forests to abandon criminal activities and reintegrate peacefully into society.

“Anyone who is kidnapped and later released will say it was Fulani who abducted them. There is no way people will not begin to resent you because of this,” Bago said, adding that failure to stop such atrocities could lead to collective accountability.

He criticized the reluctance to report armed strangers operating within Fulani settlements, noting that silence in the face of visible gunmen only worsens insecurity.
