Between July 30 and 31, up to 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into Ceuta — the Spanish autonomous city on the northern coast of Africa — by swimming or walking along the El Tarajal breakwater. The figure is equivalent to roughly 70% of the city’s regular population and represents the largest migration crisis in Ceuta’s history, far surpassing the 8,000 who crossed when Morocco relaxed border controls in 2021.
