Three Nigerian wrestlers get Iowa State scholarships

Three Nigerian female wrestlers have secured scholarship transfers to Iowa State University, a prestigious NCAA Division One programme in the United States, and head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, Akuh Purity, credits the Nigeria Wrestling Federation President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the development.

Kolawole Esther, Christinah Ogunsanya and Adekoye Jumoke, who were previously at William Penn University, an NAIA institution, have now moved to Iowa State, allowing them to compete at what is regarded as the highest and most competitive level of collegiate athletics in the United States.

Purity described the transfer as a defining moment in the athletes’ academic and sporting journeys, saying it reflected the immense potential of Nigerian wrestlers when given the right support and international exposure.
