The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s recent political stance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike said politics is fundamentally a contest for power, arguing that it would be unreasonable to expect a sitting president to assist rival parties or politicians seeking to remove him from office.
The minister spoke during his monthly media parley while reacting to President Tinubu’s recent declaration that “all is fair in politics” as political activities intensify ahead of the next general election.
According to Wike, criticisms that the Federal Government is attempting to intimidate or weaken opposition parties are misplaced because every political actor naturally seeks to gain an advantage over opponents.
“People are accusing the government of trying to intimidate, of trying to weaken the opposition. People have accused the ruling party of trying to see that the opposition does not exist,” Wike said.
