African countries are gaining more influence beyond their borders through culture, diplomacy, business, sport and international engagement.
The 2026 Brand Finance Global Soft Power Index ranks countries according to how they are viewed around the world. The index uses public perceptions and other measures to assess areas including international relations, business, culture, governance and influence.
The United States leads the global ranking with a score of 74.9, followed by China with 73.5.
Among African countries, Egypt is the continent’s highest-ranked nation at 40th globally, with a score of 44.8. South Africa follows at 43rd, while Morocco ranks 50th.
Nigeria is the fourth-highest African country on the list, with its cultural exports and technology sector contributing to its international reach.
