US President Donald Trump has commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and security challenges, particularly attacks targeting Christian communities.
In a letter dated July 6, 2026, President Trump praised the administration’s resolve and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. Details of the correspondence were made public on Wednesday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga.
Deepening Bilateral Defence Ties
President Trump emphasised that the bilateral relationship is vital as security challenges expand across West Africa. He highlighted the U.S.–Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap as a robust framework for mutual counter-terrorism objectives.
