The United Kingdom Government has advised applicants for British passports to expect a waiting period of up to three weeks under its standard processing service.
It also warned travellers not to make travel bookings until they have received their new passports.
According to guidance published on the official UK government website and seen by our correspondent on Sunday, most applicants using the standard passport service will receive their passports within three weeks.
The government explained that the processing period begins only after HM Passport Office receives an applicant’s supporting documents, rather than from the date the online application is submitted.
However, it noted that some applications may take longer to process if additional information is required or if an applicant is asked to attend an interview.
