Violent thugs murder residents, snatch phones in Kano – Shehu Sani recounts experience

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed concern over the rising activities of violent thugs in Kano State, saying the state may not be facing the threat of banditry or terrorism but continues to grapple with criminal gangs responsible for robbery, assaults and killings.

Sani made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, where he recounted witnessing an attack on a young woman during a recent visit to the state.

According to the former lawmaker, the incident occurred inside a commercial tricycle, popularly known as “A daidaita sahu,” where the victim’s mobile phone was snatched and she was left injured by the attackers.

“Kano State has no bandits and no terrorists, but they have thugs, violent thugs who snatch phones, injure or murder people with impunity,” Sani wrote.

He said the attack highlighted the growing insecurity posed by criminal gangs operating within the state and called for decisive action against those responsible.

“In one of my visits, I witnessed an attack on a young lady in a commercial tricycle locally known as ‘A daidaita sahu’. Her phone was snatched and she was left injured,” he stated.

The former senator urged authorities to ensure that all violent thugs, regardless of political affiliation, are arrested and prosecuted.

“To end their viciousness and lawlessness, both the pro- and anti-government thugs must be apprehended and brought to justice,” Sani said.

He, however, questioned whether such action would be taken as Nigeria moves closer to the next general elections.
