What the 2026 World Cup Means for Canadian Cities, Businesses, and Fans

The 2026 World Cup has already moved from bid language to train schedules, bar staffing, hotel rates, and betting slips. Canada is hosting 13 matches, with six in Toronto and seven in Vancouver, while the expanded 48-team tournament runs from June 11 to July 19 across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Canada’s own team has made the civic story sharper: one point from a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina, then three more from a 6-0 win over Qatar at BC Place.

Toronto Gets The First Touch

Toronto’s place in the tournament is not symbolic; it staged the first men’s World Cup match ever played on Canadian soil on June 12, when Canada faced Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place. The city is also running FIFA Fan Festival Toronto from June 11 to July 19, which turns match days into transit, policing, food-service, and crowd-management tests
