Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has explained his decision to select former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
In a recent interview, Obi highlighted Kwankwaso’s experience, integrity, and commitment to good governance as key factors in the choice.
He described the former governor as a leader with a proven track record in education, infrastructure, and human capital development.
Obi emphasised that the partnership is aimed at building a broad-based coalition capable of delivering meaningful change across Nigeria, particularly in addressing poverty, insecurity, and economic challenges.
He noted Kwankwaso’s strong political influence in the North and his alignment with the vision of a new Nigeria.
The decision comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi stressed that the choice was not based on regional considerations alone but on competence, shared values, and the need for national unity.
