Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticized ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, accusing him of fueling ethnic prejudice and spreading conspiracy theories that threaten Nigeria’s unity.
In a statement by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described Lawal’s recent remarks as inflammatory and lacking evidence, warning that attempts to stigmatize entire ethnic groups based on the actions of a few individuals could deepen divisions in a country already battling insecurity and economic hardship.
“It is both dangerous and irresponsible to suggest that any Nigerian should be judged or condemned for crimes committed by individuals simply because they share a common ancestry,” Atiku said, stressing that such rhetoric undermines national cohesion.
He further highlighted contradictions in Lawal’s public posture, noting that while Lawal portrays himself as a victim of political conspiracies, he simultaneously claims to be courted by governors eager for his return
