
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerians to deepen democratic values and strengthen national unity as the country marks Democracy Day.
Issa-Onilu made the call in a statement issued on June 12 by his Deputy Director of Media and Communication, Paul Odenyi.
He described June 12 as a historic symbol of Nigerians’ resilience, courage, and determination in the struggle for democratic governance.
The NOA boss said the day also underscores the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms for all citizens. He noted that democracy remains the most inclusive and accountable system of government, as it allows citizens to freely choose their leaders, hold public officials accountable, and participate meaningfully in national affairs.
