Since its founding in 2001, the publication has not only chronicled West Africa’s business evolution but has also fundamentally shaped it, delivering depth, context, and actionable intelligence that go beyond mere headlines.
The Founding Vision
BusinessDay was born from a bold conviction: Nigeria and Africa deserved a dedicated business publication that went beyond surface reporting to provide genuine insight. Founded in 2001 by a team of seasoned media professionals led by veteran journalist Frank Aigbogun (former editor of Vanguard), the newspaper set out to fill a critical gap in business journalism.
The inaugural board, chaired by the distinguished Professor Pat Utomi and including Aigbogun, was further strengthened by pioneer editor Akinniyi Sowunmi and an advisory board led by the eminent Dick
