
The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has launched a strong spiritual campaign against insecurity, directing traditional worshippers and custodians of Benin customs to intensify efforts against criminals terrorising Edo communities.
The monarch gave the directive on Tuesday during a gathering with native doctors, priests, priestesses, and other traditional leaders at his palace in Benin City.
The meeting focused largely on the worsening security situation in the country, especially rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes affecting communities.
Oba Ewuare II said the time had come for traditional institutions to take active steps in supporting ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the land.
According to the revered monarch, the decision to summon the spiritual leaders was inspired by divine direction and guidance from royal ancestors.
He stressed that insecurity has become a serious concern that requires urgent intervention from every legitimate institution, including traditional authorities.
