NICRAT and Ogun State Collaborate to Incorporate Cancer Screening into Primary Healthcare

The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) has teamed up with the Ogun State Government to incorporate essential cancer prevention and screening services into the standard family planning activities conducted at Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs). This partnership aims to mitigate the increasing incidence of cancer among women in Nigeria.

This initiative, designed to enhance the accessibility of cancer screening for women, is being executed through a capacity-building program called Integration of Basic Cancer Screening Services into Family Planning in Primary Healthcare Centres (Phase II). This phase began on November 5, 2026, at the PHC in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

During the training event, the Acting Head of the Health Promotion, Behavioural Change, and Communication Unit, Mrs. Olabisi Folorunso-Lanlehin, spoke on behalf of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NICRAT, Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu. She emphasized that integrating cancer screening with family planning services would create a valuable platform for delivering preventive healthcare to more women.
