African Armies Must Unite Against Terrorism, Insecurity – COAS

African Armies Urged to Unite Against Terrorism, InsecurityThe Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called for stronger collaboration among African militaries to confront terrorism, insurgency, and other cross-border security challenges threatening the continent.

Speaking at the Third African Land Forces Forum, held during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 in Port Harcourt, Shaibu stressed that regional cooperation is vital to achieving lasting peace and stability.

According to a statement by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, the forum brought together army chiefs and defence representatives from 17 African nations, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening continental unity and security.

Shaibu noted that integrating the forum into NADCEL not only honours the Nigerian Army’s legacy dating back to its origins as the Glover Hausas in 1863 but also reinforces military partnerships across Africa.
