ESG in 2030: The trends that will define the next decade

The ESG conversation is changing faster than many boardrooms appreciate.

A few years ago, sustainability reports were largely glossy documents celebrating corporate social responsibility. Today, investors are asking tougher questions, regulators are introducing mandatory disclosure requirements, insurers are pricing climate risks more accurately, and consumers are rewarding businesses that genuinely align profit with purpose.

By 2030, ESG will no longer be a competitive advantage. It will simply be the cost of doing business.

The question for Nigerian businesses is no longer whether ESG matters. It is whether they will be ready when sustainability becomes the operating system of the global economy.

The World Health Organisation estimates that climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths annually between 2030 and 2050 from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and heat stress alone. Climate risk is therefore no longer an environmental issue; it is a health, economic and development challenge.
