Internet service providers (ISPs) in Nigeria have been urged to abandon the practice of competing over the same fibre infrastructure and instead embrace collaborative infrastructure-sharing models that could accelerate broadband expansion, improve network utilisation and unlock new revenue opportunities.
The call comes as industry stakeholders argue that collaboration, rather than duplicating infrastructure, will be essential to extending broadband connectivity beyond Nigeria’s major urban centres and achieving wider digital inclusion.
Speaking at the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) Critical Conversation Forum on Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) 2026 in Lagos on Tuesday, Ayowande Adalemo, Managing Director and CEO of Wave5 Wireless Vision, said Nigeria’s broadband industry remains constrained by fragmented fibre networks despite years of investment in broadband infrastructure.
Adalemo likened Wave5’s proposed federation model to the transformation brought to Nigeria’s banking sector by Interswitch, arguing that a similar collaborative approach could unlock greater value from existing fibre investments.
