Lagos upgrades Iju, Akute water facilities to boost supply

The Lagos State Government has commenced the installation of new pumps at the Iju Headworks and Akute Water Intake Stations.

The installation is part of efforts to increase water production and improve the reliability of public water supply across the state, according to a statement obtained by The PUNCH from the government’s official Facebook page on Sunday.

The intervention, being implemented through the Lagos Water Corporation, is part of the rehabilitation of the Iju Headworks and Akute Intake Station under Lots 1, 2 and 3 of the project.

The eight-month rehabilitation programme, funded by the state government, runs from February to October 2026 and also covers the rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan water treatment plants.

The project is focused on replacing and upgrading critical pumping systems and related infrastructure at the facilities, with the Lagos Water Corporation saying the intervention is expected to restore operational efficiency and strengthen water
