Emmanuel N. Nnorom will become Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc on August 21, 2026, succeeding Tony Elumelu, who is retiring after completing the maximum 12-year tenure for non-executive directors prescribed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The appointment, approved by UBA’s board on July 6, marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the pan-African lender, which operates in 20 African countries and has international operations in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
Leadership transition
Elumelu, who has chaired UBA since 2014, said serving the lender had been one of the defining experiences of his career.
“Serving United Bank for Africa has been one of the great privileges of my career. UBA has established a unique competitive position across Africa and globally, and I leave the board with great confidence in UBA’s future,” he said.
