N456bn debt: NERC dissolves Kaduna Disco board, seeks new investor

As the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission moves to secure a new core investor for the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, the Association of Power Generation Companies has called for the selection of a credible and financially capable investor for the company.

The APGC Chief Executive Officer, Joy Ogaji, said the regulator must provide clarity and transparency on the proposed transition, warning that the huge debt owed by KAEDC was affecting the operations of electricity generation companies.

On Monday, NERC dissolved the board of KAEDC over the company’s N456.5bn cumulative market obligations and prolonged financial and operational challenges.

The regulator also appointed an interim board of special directors and directed the commencement of a transparent process for the selection of a new core investor for the electricity distribution company.
