Millions of electricity consumers across Lagos have been thrown into darkness on Sunday after Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) lost supply from Nigeria’s national grid, highlighting the continued vulnerability of the country’s electricity transmission network and its far-reaching impact on homes, businesses and economic activities.
In a service interruption notice issued on Sunday, EKEDP said it lost supply from the national grid at exactly 13:49hrs on Sunday, June 28, 2026, resulting in a widespread disruption of electricity supply across its franchise area.
This development comes less than a week after experiencing reduced generation output from Egbin Power Station and a fault on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
The distribution company said the outage affected its entire network, leaving customers across Lagos and adjoining communities without electricity.
