Tinubu raises soldiers’ salaries from N100,000 to N250,000

President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase of between 30 percent to 80 percent for armed forces personnel in a move expected to boost the troops’ commitment and dedication to combating insecurity in Africa’s most populous nation.

About 250,000 military personnel are expected to benefit from this new raise as the new salary structure takes effect from September 1, 2026, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on Information and Strategy, said in a post on X Tuesday.

Personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 percent increase. Officers from Colonel down to Warrant Officer will get a 50 pecent raise.

The annual military salary bill will rise from N660 billion to N924 billion. Personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 percent increase.
