United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has appointed Emmanuel N. Nnorom as its new Group Chairman, succeeding Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, whose retirement from the Board takes effect on August 21, 2026.
The leadership transition follows the completion of Elumelu’s 12-year tenure as a Non-Executive Director, in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s corporate governance framework, which prescribes a maximum tenure for directors of commercial banks.
UBA announced in a statement Monday that its Board approved Nnorom’s appointment at its meeting on July 6, 2026, where directors also accepted Elumelu’s retirement after more than a decade of leading the Board.
Nnorom, currently a Non-Executive Director of UBA, is a chartered accountant with more than 40 years of experience spanning banking, finance, audit and corporate governance. The bank said his appointment reflects a planned succession strategy that combines leadership continuity with regulatory compliance.
